Do Mormons have fun?

"Hey Liz do you want to hang out?"
"Sure thing!"
"Come to a dinner party."
"Wait, there's pot, I guess I shouldn't go."

"Come see a movie."
"Wait, its rated R, I guess I can't go."

"Come get a drink."
"Wait..."

That last one hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure its on the way.

Boston!

So Elise, Allan, and I drove two hours to Boston yesterday. It started out around 25 degrees, then by the end of the night it was around 8. I wore a bunch of layers, a scarf, gloves, and my big coat and still found myself pretty cold. We walked almost the entire time too, which makes me pretty sore and tired today. It was way fun though.

Our first top was Harvard. That was a pretty neat experience. Its a great campus. Its surprising how similar Westminster's campus is though. Obviously they used classic preppy schools as their guide when they built the campus.

As we were walking past this statue there was a huge group of Chinese tourists. One by one they were getting their pictures taken touching the foot of the statue. It was obvious this had been done a lot too cause the left shoe is all shiny. So after they left we went and took pictures ourselves. When we asked someone what it meant they laughed...then explained. Yale has a statue that gives you luck if you touch it, so Harvard copied them and started doing that with John Harvard's left foot. The catch - Every year all of the undergrads pee on the statue. So you might want to wash your hands...

The monument of Bunker Hill. We climbed all 294 stairs and got pictures at the top. Now my legs are sore.

We had lunch at the oldest restaurant in the country. It might even be the oldest building in the country, but they can't prove it because of lack of records. They also boast of having the first female waitress in the country, and the first place that sold toothpicks. The clam chowder was great.

We had dinner in Little Italy. Nuff said.

Our director got us free tickets to this show. It is a comedy that includes a lot of audience participation. It wasn't the most amazing thing you've ever seen, but i laughed a lot. Its the longest running non musical in Boston. Everyone needs something to brag about right?

In all I'd say it was a pretty great trip. We saw a lot of historic stuff and got to see a lot more of the good and bad in each other. I guess there will be a lot of that on this trip.

Concern

A new place can be scary, intimidating, frustrating, and tiresome. Yet, when a person shows genuine concern in who you are and how you are doing, it very quickly becomes a new adventure with new friends and great possibilities. And who says one person can't make all the difference in the world?

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan, 'press on' has solved, and always will solve, the problems of the human race."

It Starts

I left this morning and made it to Massachusetts this evening. Yes its cold, Yes its snowing. Yes...this is going to be so fun. This is the first group picture.
Allen and Elise are brother and sister. They are pretty fun.

We got to the hotel and I walked into this as my room.

Not shown: a big tv, a bathroom, a mini fridge and microwave, a desk...lets just say its a big nice room for me. Allen and Elise saw this first then they went to their room. They have just a normal hotel room. Somehow I got a sweet hookup and I am NOT complaining. Of course, the best moment of the day was when the lady at the front desk told me that there is free hot chocolate available 24/7.

I think I'm gonna like it here.

A lot can happen in a year

As I look back on it, I think 2008 was pretty good to me. Each year there are certain events that happen that will impact the rest of your life more than others. It is hard to see which choices you made or events you experienced will most greatly change your future. Maybe something so small as the class schedule I chose changed everything. I have reflected on the past year however, and chosen 5 things that I BELIEVE are the most significant of 2008. They are in no particular order.

In 2008 I...

1. Cemented my decision to become a stage manager by going to Ohio and applying for only theater jobs.

2. Moved out of the house.

3. Turned 25.

4. Made it to New York City and felt the thrill and buzz of Broadway.

5. Graduated from college.
